Preparing Red Grape Vinaigrette for your favourite salad

Are you looking for a dressing that can not only richen your salad,
but is also
packed with natural antioxidants & nutrients?

Homemade Grape Vinaigrette has you covered!

As one of the most common salad dressings, vinaigrette comes in a wide range of varieties.  Though not as common as its counterparts, grape vinaigrette gives a surprisingly refreshing taste to a salad by adding some extra grape flavours and an additional hint of sweetness to the mix.  Also, unlike traditional vinaigrettes, grape vinaigrette is commonly made of 1 part of vinegar (or other acids like lemon juice) and 2 parts of oil, instead of 3 traditionally, which makes the dressing even healthier.

Ingredients:

-  1/2 cup of seedless red grapes
-  1 sprig of fresh thyme leaves or 1/4 bunch of fresh cilantro
-  1/4 cup of red grape vinegar
-  1/2 cup of olive oil
-  1 pinch of Salt & pepper to taste
(balsamic vinegar or wine vinegar, if needed)

Procedures:

  1. Mince the thyme leaves or cilantro.
  2. Place the grapes, thyme leaves or cilantro, and red grape vinegar into a food processor or blender to puree until the mixture is smooth.  Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Add olive oil into the mixture and continue processing until thoroughly mixed.

Tips:

  • Red grapes can be replaced by 100% grape juice.  In that case, the vinaigrette can be prepared by simply whisking together all ingredients.
  • Peeling the grapes before processing can make the vinaigrette smoother.
  • Emulsifiers can be added to prevent the vinegar and oil from separating.  Otherwise, mix the vinaigrette thoroughly before usage.
  • Grapes are sweet in nature, and sugar may be added in the manufacturing of red grape vinegar, so the vinaigrette may be relatively sweet.  Feel free to add balsamic vinegar or wine vinegar to taste if it is too sweet.  You are also welcomed to replace the red grape vinegar with them.
  • If olive oil is not readily available, canola oil will be a suitable replacement.
  • Feel free to add other spices to the vinaigrette for extra flavour.

Cooking is personal and a chance for exploration.  Try making your very own vinaigrette now, and start your day with a bowl of nice, unique and unconventional salad! :)
